A spotlight on John Lewis
JOHN LEWIS #SPOTLIGHTON
Why did you want to work at Grand Central?
When I found out that John Lewis were opening their new flagship store, the largest John Lewis to open in 4 years outside of London, I knew I wanted to be involved. The store is John Lewis’ most innovative shop to date. With new services such as Loved&Found and &Beauty, I thought it would be a great opportunity, together with working with a brand new design-led station.
What do you love about Birmingham?
I love the buzz and how fashion forward the city is. Being the second largest city, it really does boast that cosmopolitan feel. The fashion opportunity in Birmingham really is second to none.
Why do you like working for John Lewis?
I’ve been a partner within John Lewis for the past 14 years. The democratic structure, the ability to change roles, being Britain’s leading retailer together the ethos and principles of the John Lewis partnership, really does make it a great place to work. Working for John Lewis is like working within an extended family.
Why did you want to work in the fashion/beauty industry?
Ever since I was a little girl, fashion and beauty have always played a significant part of my life, from watching my mum getting ready for an evening out with friends, to when I was old enough to buy my own clothes. Fashion is something that interests and excites me so I am delighted to be able to extend this passion into my work by being a dedicated personal stylist for John Lewis Birmingham.
What are your recommendations?
I would recommend creating a capsule wardrobe of timeless items. My biggest tip: invest in denim!
I commonly suggest the J Brand Mariah jeans to my clients because they are a really flattering denim. As they are high waisted, they come up that little bit higher so you don’t get that dreaded muffin top. They also have stretch in, allowing movement, which a lot of skinny jeans don’t tend to have.
A good crisp white shirt is a staple. The white cotton shirt from Jigsaw, is really flattering because it’s fitted. I would team this with a pair of skinny denim jeans and a tan brogue. It also works really well with the knitted rib border poncho from Jigsaw at £89.
A big trend for Spring/Summer 2016 will be the slip dress. It’s a simple alternative to wearing trousers which you can dress up or down.
With the John Lewis complimentary personal styling service you can discover the styles, trends and brands the Womenswear and Menswear departments have to offer with guidance from trained personal stylists.
