Grand Central Opening Date Revealed
Described as ‘Birmingham’s new premium shopping and dining destination’ Grand Central will be home to one of the biggest John Lewis department stores in the UK and more than 60 other shops and restaurants, including many which are new to Birmingham.
We will be opening just a few days after New Street station opens the doors of the redeveloped and extended concourse area above which Grand Central sits – our convenient location in the heart of the city above one of the best connected railway stations in the country makes Grand Central the ideal meeting place, for shopping with friends and family, or for a bite to eat at any time of the day or evening from our array of restaurants serving delicious food.
The opening of Grand Central will complement and expand the existing shopping and dining offer – providing more choices, and a range of flavours and cuisines not currently available in the city centre. We believe that this added choice will make Birmingham one of the best shopping destinations in Europe!
The opening of John Lewis, which will have four floors offering more than 350,000 products including fashion, furniture, homewares, beauty and the latest technology will mean that Birmingham has five department stores all within a short walking distance of each other. Furthermore, by my reckoning, between Grand Central and the Bullring I think we will have one of the longest stretches of undercover shops anywhere in the country!
It’s not just me who is excited about our opening, I speak to many people around Birmingham and beyond who are too, and I’m sure we’ll see lots of people who perhaps haven’t visited Birmingham for a while coming into the city to see all that we have to offer and what all the excitement is about.
Architecturally, Grand Central will become a prominent addition to the Birmingham Skyline, the stainless steel façade which encases the whole building provides a stunning focal point right in the heart of the city, the reflective panels also reflect the architecture, new and old, of the surrounding buildings.
Inside, the show piece is the stunning new roof which will flood natural light into the shopping centre and onto the station concourse below – it’s really starting to take shape and it looks amazing! The look and feel of Grand Central will provide an exciting and vibrant environment for shoppers and visitors, interactive internal displays will allow visitors to explore not just what is on offer within the centre but also lots of other attractions, places to visit and things to do in the city; and the customer service provided will be second to none with all staff having undergone a bespoke excellence in customer service training programme.
So with just under three months to go, there is still a lot to do, but we are on schedule and there is a real buzz amongst the development team and those who are on site working hard to bring the centre to life, and we very much look forward to welcoming you to Grand Central when we open on 24th September 2015.
